One of the best presentations that we saw was about parking congestion in Abu Dhabi city. It was presented by Ibrahim Abdullah and Mohammed Al-Qubaisi on Monday April 18, 2011 in the afternoon.
It was a very interesting presentation which discussed about parking problems in Abu Dhabi city, which is one of the most important problems nowadays. Ibrahim began the presentation in an attractive way, by introducing the outline of the whole presentation. Then, he discussed the history of parking congestion worldwide, which was in the United States in 1932. Next, he moved on a reasonable way by discussing how the congestion makes drivers frustrated or angry, which will be a consequence of that chaotic parking. Furthermore, he also gave us good pictures about inefficient use of space which will lead to unorganized way of parking due to unorganized parking.
In the second half of the presentation, Mohammed tried to give good solutions for parking congestion. Robotic Car Parking is one solution to reduce congestion and driver frustration. Moreover, a parking facility also is one good solution that is used in Munich. The third solution is underground parking which is even used in some Abu Dhabi buildings. Finally, the Mawaqif system is a last solution which is also used in Abu Dhabi, but they received some feedback from some students.
At the end of the presentation, Mohammed recommended the use of Public Transportation which will reduce congestion such as, the Dubai Metro.
